On Monday night at 7:00 p.m., a Hero’s Bridge team member received a distressing text about a veteran and his girlfriend who were sleeping in their car. While the veteran is on a waiting list for housing, that status offered no protection from the freezing weather that night.
Acting swiftly, the team member exchanged a few texts and phone calls, and within an hour, Hero’s Bridge secured a motel room for them for the duration of the Arctic blast. Hero’s Bridge continues to work closely with the veteran to help him connect to VA services and find a more permanent solution.
A witness shared that the couple was brought to tears upon learning they would have a warm, safe place to sleep that night—a poignant reminder of how vital immediate action can be in moments of crisis.
One of the Hero’s Bridge four core values is to eliminate red tape. Hero’s Bridge has seen firsthand the difficulties older veterans face when trying to navigate the VA system and large legacy veteran organizations.
Unfortunately, many organizations have layered themselves in overwhelming bureaucracy, which makes it hard to quickly help a veteran in need, if at all.
Hero’s Bridge will always remain committed to eliminating red tape and bureaucracy at every opportunity.
