Ten years ago this month, Hero’s Bridge was little more than an idea and a conviction: that the men and women who served our country should never face aging alone. What began with $750 and a handful of volunteers, much determination, and more questions than answers has grown into an organization that has touched thousands of veterans and families across the country.
As I reflect on this milestone, I am filled with gratitude.
Over the past decade, Hero’s Bridge has provided more than 10,000 veteran visits, delivered thousands of meals, connected isolated veterans with caring Battle Buddies, and helped countless older heroes navigate challenges related to health, housing, transportation, benefits, and daily living. Behind every number is a veteran whose life was made a little easier, a little safer, and a little less lonely.
None of this happened because of one person. It happened because volunteers answered the call. Donors chose to invest in our mission. Community partners opened doors. Staff members poured their hearts into serving others. And veterans trusted us with their stories. To every person who has walked alongside Hero’s Bridge during these first ten years, thank you. You have helped build something extraordinary.
While anniversaries invite reflection, they also challenge us to look ahead. Today, we stand on the threshold of one of the most ambitious chapters in our history: Hero’s Bridge Village. With site planning moving forward, our capital campaign underway, and strong community support behind us, we are working to create a first-of-its-kind community where older veterans can age with dignity, independence, and connection. What seemed impossible ten years ago is becoming very, very real.
The need remains urgent. Every day, we meet older veterans struggling with isolation, financial hardship, food insecurity, and a lack of affordable housing options. Their courage and resilience remind us why this work matters and why our mission is far from complete.
As we celebrate this 10-year milestone, I invite you to help shape the next decade of impact. Whether you volunteer, advocate, donate, or simply share our story, you are helping ensure that aging veterans receive the honor, support, and community they deserve. If Hero’s Bridge has inspired you, I hope you’ll consider honoring this milestone with a gift in a denomination of 10, whatever amount is meaningful to you. Every contribution helps us continue building a future where no aging veteran is left behind.
Thank you for believing in this mission and for helping us bridge the gap between service and sacrifice. Read the full newsletter.
